Hip Hop History Month Kicks Off at Cornell
POSTED ON October 31st, 2008 BY CalvinAh, November. The month of turkey, tryptophan, people with scruffy facial hair, and… hip-hop?
It’s true. November is the official Hip Hop History Month as defined by the Universal Zulu Nation, and the pioneers are kicking things off a day early with Born in the Bronx: A Celebration of Hip Hop.
Key figures in the creation and development of hip-hop (and b-boying) like Afrika Bambaataa, Grandmaster Caz, GrandWizzard Theodore, and Pop Master Fabel will be in Ithaca, NY for lectures, music, performances, and roundtable discussions celebrating a collection of pictures, posters, and recordings that document hip-hop’s baby steps. (I used a lot of items in a series to convey how overwhelmingly dope this event will be.)
Check the video below for some a short feature on Crazy Legs and Fabel from NY1.
The free (!) conference will take place today and tomorrow at Cornell University.
Don’t forget to wish all your friends a family a happy Hip Hop History Month, and happy (early) Hip Hop History Month to all our readers. (It doesn’t flow so well, eh?)
