Letter from the Editor Concerning the Kwikstep Feature
POSTED ON December 9th, 2008 BY CalvinOne of our highest goals at More Than A Stance is to put out quality content with the highest degree of professionalism.
Covering the b-boy culture, however, can be a little different than covering traditional news. Because the community is so tightly knit together and because so much of the history of b-boying is an oral history, certain limitations are inevitable.
Such is the case for our Kwikstep article. Our intent with it is the same as all our other articles: to provide an outlet for a member of the b-boy community to tell his or her story, allowing readers to respond as they please.
We allowed for some special exceptions for the Kwikstep story because of the sensitivity of the subject matter and the history. You will find that the feature has been updated with sections added and modified by Kwikstep with aid from Mr. Wiggles.
Giving editorial control to our subjects is not, and will never be, a habitual policy at More Than A Stance. However, after several conversations with Kwikstep, we understood and respected his desire to insure that the story gave respect where it was due and avoided unnecessarily offending readers. It’s not something a typical magazine would do, but normal magazines don’t give a shit about b-boy culture and would have fucked up the story anyway.
We just wanted to let you know.
We hope you enjoy the new version of the story.
Love,
Calvin
