New Book Explores B-boying in New York
POSTED ON January 23rd, 2009 BY Paul

Foundation, B-boys, B-girls and Hip-Hop Culture in New York is a scholarly look at the b-boy culture in New York City. Author Joseph Schloss interviewed dancers from all over New York as part of the book, including Alien Ness, Ken Swift, and Trac2, and even learned to b-boy himself as part of his research.

foundationbook

In the tradition of Jeff Chang (can we call that a tradition yet?), Schloss delves into b-boying from the approach of an historian, with chapters on music, pedagogy, aesthetics, space, battling, and history.

I’ve never read any kind of in-depth writing about b-boying, so I’m really interested to see how it translates.

The book isn’t out yet, but you can preorder it HERE.
