Planet B-Boy to be Made into Feature Film by Screen Gems
POSTED ON May 1st, 2009 BY Paul
Screen Gems, a subsidiary of Sony Pictures, has picked up Benson Lee’s feature film adaptation of Planet B-Boy. Lee mentioned his desire to make Planet B-Boy into a fiction feature film in our interview with him, so it’s exciting to see it actually happening.
The Hollywood Reporter describes the plot as being very similar to the documentary, in that it follows a b-boy crew trying to “reclaim the world championship by competing against the top international breakdancing teams.”
Here’s what Lee had to say about it in the article:
“B-boying is one of those street dances that has been co-opted in many films but never portrayed authentically,” he said. “I want to present b-boying for what it actually is, which one of the most powerful street dances out there right now. And with so many countries involved, it presents a different kind of story than what we’re normally used to seeing in street dance films.”
Congrats to Benson Lee; we can’t wait to see where this goes.

Please don’t turn into a Bboy Drama.
the audience likes seeing kitsch. so i’d be ready if that’s what hollywood gives em.
we all saw with how many cliches they saturated the bgirl movie. and that new vampire/fighting/streetdance/drama/let’s-mash-up-everything-people-like-seeing thing…
Is this still happening??
According to Benson Lee, director of Planet B-Boy, the feature version of the script is still “in development” as of today.
Might be a while before there is any more news though.
