American Eagle Sets Its Sights on B-Boys

I gotta say that I’m fairly impressed American Eagle didn’t just throw a picture of an awful looking freeze on this shirt, but my suspicion of big companies makes me assume that they are ripping off this style of artwork from somewhere.
In all honesty it seems to be a pretty unique attempt, but still not something I’d buy.
What do you think?

Damn, I feel stupid for even being slightly complimentary of it. I HATE IT TOO!
I kinda like it.
I wouldn’t rock it myself, but in terms of sheer aesthetics, I like that they’re not just imitating the super-brightly-colored, super-cartoony, super-thick-lined graphics every b-boy already wears (not that there’s anything wrong with those).
According to a press release I found, the brand just celebrated the opening of a flagship store in Times Square by hiring some “New York graffiti artists”–maybe this is one of the results? Their other “graffiti” shirts aren’t horrible either.
Again, not a huge fan of AE or anything, but since some of my favorite artists have grimy styles somewhat similar to this, I can’t hate.
As far as who’s making money off of it and who’s going to be rocking it, no comment.
It’s a aight try. Yet I don’t feel any realness from it. It’s like the outsider who’s trying to fit in to bboying because it looks cool.

I like it. Reminds me of Jean-Michel Basquiat a little bit. It’s easy for people to hate but there was a point in time when bboys weren’t always wearing t-shirts with gigantic type all over it.

the boombox is kinda cool–the position is different which is cool, i am tired of seeing everything in the center of shirt. i like the idea of the dude standing with his arms crossed..looks like something picasso would do in cubism (if you are into art, but just a bad attempt…give the shirt a couple more tries and then see what happens
