Hip-Hop Wiki “TheCypher” Goes Live
POSTED ON January 20th, 2010 BY PaulA few weeks ago we heard from Chris, the man behind Breaker NYC, that he was working on a super top-secret project called TheCypher with the participation of people like Alien Ness and Joe Schloss (author of the book Foundation).
I’ve used Wikipedia for everything from researching school projects to freaking myself out, and I’ve always been disappointed that there was very little information on there about b-boying. TheCypher sets out to change that, aiming to be a “collection of articles that will document Hip Hop history as it happens.” In other words, it’s Wikipedia for b-boys. While it’s not limited to b-boying, it’s definitely dominated by b-boy-related articles at this point.
It’s an exciting project, but the format of a wiki isn’t without its problems. He’ll have to deal with everything from people editing their own bio pages to improve their image (generally considered a bad move) to vandalizing the pages of their rivals.
This can all be helped by having a thriving community of contributors to reign in the misbehavior, and the beauty of a wiki is you don’t have to be an OG b-boy to contribute. So if the idea of TheCypher interests you, I’d suggest you go on over and start contributing. Might as well start with their featured article on cyphers.

this is actually a nice idea, but seeing as how many things in bboying are subjective and opinionated, i’m interested in seeing how things will develop with certain ideas or articles. i’ll be with this thing all the way though
