POSTED ON July 3rd, 2008 BY Paul“DJ Timber, my brother, he’s one of the brothers who’s keepin it real & keepin it official, maintaining the legacy and the truth of what original break DJs are about for 2008 and beyond, peace and love.”

“I’m gonna let everyone know right now….Timber is probably the best break beat dj since Leacy! thats right I SAID IT! The only DJ’s that compare to him and are at his level is the horse power crew, and by coincidence, THATS HIS CREW!!”
ALIEN NESS – President – Mighty Zulu Kingz
With testimonials like the ones above, it would be crazy to ignore DJ Timber’s advice when he says to “learn your history, learn your roots, learn the dance and then believe in what you play.” Originally from Belfast, Ireland, Timber now resides in Barcelona, Spain and is part of the legendary Mighty Zulu Kings as both a b-boy and a DJ. It is this two-sided approach to hip-hop that has allowed Timber to develop himself into one of the most respected b-boy DJs around.
It also makes his DJing for B-Boys: My Perspective blog post one to definitely pay attention to, both for b-boys and DJs. He speaks on not only how a b-boy DJ should rock a set, but also on how a b-boy can read and react to the DJ. Take this gem, for example:
“Also, unless you are 100% confident of what you are doing don’t dance awkwardly to intro’s of songs…wait for the beat to kick, you won’t lose points and you more importantly won’t look like a tit!! DJs shouldn’t play anything with more than an 8 count intro once a battle has started so just wait it out and build your energy so when the music kicks you explode!“
Aside from the knowledge that he drops on his MySpace, all five of his sample mixtapes are available for free download from his MySpace music player. Just make sure you are logged in and hit the “download” link below each song title.
