You’ve heard me complain before about how most mainstream media portrayals of b-boying are almost comically ridiculous, showing a b-boy or b-girl’s life as something that often revolves around dancing in the rain in unison with your friends.
So maybe Jon Chu (Step Up 2: The Streets) has the right idea with LXD (“The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers”)–an upcoming online series. Instead of dramatizing the lives of b-boys and b-girls, he’s going completely over to science fiction, making them so ridiculous that it’s almost easier to accept because you’re not saying “No, no, this would never happen in real life.” So while it’s tough to accept the portrayal of our favorite dancers when they are turned into clichés (You Got Served, Step Up & Step Up 2), it’s way easier and a lot more fun when they are turned into superheroes.
