Soviet System: 10 Days Spent Filming B-Boy Culture In Moscow
POSTED ON May 8th, 2009 BY PaulSoviet System by Iain Denny is a short glimpse into the life of one Russian b-boy: Yan Nemalovsky, a member of Allthemost. Although this clip is titled “Part One: Yan,” I can’t find any other parts.
Here’s what Denny had to say:
“No one ever really thinks of the Russians breakdancing but they’ve been at it since the 80s. I made a film giving a snapshot of the life of one Russian BBoy.”
It truly is just a snapshop in that we get a glimpse of the history of b-boying in Russia, some commentary by Yan, and then a highlight clip of a battle that he hosted. That’s about it, but it can still leave a big impact on someone who knows very little about Russia, let alone Russian b-boying.

It was cool to hear a little about Yan’s background because it shows why breaking appealed to him so much. Though physically far apart, his hood sounds very similar to the environment which gave birth to hip-hop.
I wish there was more talk and less highlight footage
I feel you, honestly I left it playing in the background once it went to the highlight footage at the end.
I do like how he said “then I kick them in the face” while he was making a punching motion.
