History: Crazy Legs, Kwikstep, Flo Master and Others on Rap City
POSTED ON January 4th, 2010 BY CalvinThis gem from TheMeaningOfDope features an interview and showcase with a group of b-boys that more or less helped define a generation of b-boying.
The segment, featuring then-Ghettoriginal members including Mr. Wiggles, Pop Master Fabel, Crazy Legs, Zulu Gremlin, Flo Master, Kwikstep and others, is still eye-opening after over a decade. Some things, it seems, never change, as evidenced by the bumbling host trying to make the dancers simultaneously dance and explain their moves.
Writes be. of TheMeaningOfDope:
There weren’t a lot of avenues for dancers to find relative fame and coin back then, but our concern was more for the love of the artform, the passion for the music, and the need to exert some much pent up aggression about our home lives, social and financial status’, and the general public disregard we were feeling from institutions like the schools we attended versus us trying to make some money…
The original style footwork that Legs and Grem are on in this segment really initiated my interest in keeping my footwork on point at all times, and Legs Almighty’s style was real different to see back then, (except for him missing the thread at 6:00).
You can read the full post here. As for my favorite part, I think I’ll have to go with Fabel abruptly (but politely) telling the host, “Excuse me a second here, I’mma catch a little wreck.” Priorities!
