What if People Treated All Athletes the Way They Treat B-Boys?
POSTED ON April 17th, 2011 BY CalvinAlright, these Nike Skateboarding commercials are a) kind of old and b) not about b-boying.
But they are hilarious, and their relevance toward b-boying is readily obvious.
It doesn’t take too much of a stretch of the imagination to see the word “skaterboarders” replaced by “b-boys” — especially when you consider that many b-boys are hoping to see professional b-boying emulate the model set by professional skateboarding.

You know what would really help out the legitimacy of bboying? If we started selling “breakdancing is not a crime” t-shirts, with a stick figure of a guy doing an l-kick or something underneath the words. GET ON IT, Morethanastance.
L-kick? REALLY???
Nah, it should just be bboying isnt a crime. No need for a poorly drawn freeze.
am i the only one who sensed sarcasm in that post?
now that you mentioned it, i think you may be right. Bboying is not a crime would make a nice slogan for a tee i’m sure.
i remember hearing about a kid, like 15-16 years old getting tased by a cop for skateboarding, this happened a few years back, i can’t recall. i wonder if there’s been any bboys who have been incapacitated for dancing, and self-inflicted mishaps don’t count haha
I think that people are more likely to stop and watch with a smile on their faces when they see bboys than to yell at them and call the police.
Also I’m pretty sure that most of the Birmingham b-boys skated back in the day. I know a lot of the younger guys used to skate.
I think with abdc and red bull, bboying is way past this peception now. The only thing that separates it from skating and other sports is money- and endorsements. money legitimises- and in order for bboying to get there- we need sponsored bboys- we need the nikes, adidas’ , pumas of the world to make bboy shoes- and bboy wear, and for bboys to wear them. once they listen to the consumer market- bboying will take that final leap. but bboys dont get harassed or anything these days on the street like when i was kid- its a legitimate and popular dance , stop on any corner and bboy – and you ll likeley get coins thrown at you.
